Site Back Up

February 23rd, 2010 Uncategorized

My host did some maintenance and broke most of the permissions for my site. I’m not sure how long things have been down, but it should all be back.

Music

I’ve been listening to a new band, and when I say new I really mean new. The tracks they have up are their very first test recordings, so we’re not talking about stellar production values by any means. Still, it’s enough to tell that there’s something special here. Krissy Boyd has an amazing voice; I could listen to it for days on end and never get tired of hearing it. If you have any interest in a female-fronted, folky band you should check them out. And if they hit it big you’ll be able to say you were there right at the beginning. ;)

World of Warcraft: Mod for People with Colorblindness

September 10th, 2008 WoW, Gaming, Mod

If you’re played WoW you know that items that are green are nice, but blues are better. Unfortunately a lot of people have difficulty telling some colours apart and WoW doesn’t provide any other way to distinguish between the different classes of items. So I’ve written a mod to do it. When you hover your mouse over an item the tooltip will have an additional line saying what the rarity and colour of the item is.

This is my very first mod, so I’m sure there are things that could be done better. I’m happy to hear constructive criticism. Drunken Hyena Item Quality mod

World of Warcraft

August 7th, 2008 WoW, Gaming

In my ever-dwindling bits of spare time I’ve found myself back playing World of Warcraft. It’s actually nice since it’s an easy way to be social with friends and family who are spread out around the continent. But this post has a much more pathetic goal: I want a horsey.

You see, if I invite someone to a 10-day free trial and they end up signing up for 2 months of play, I get a (in-game) horse/zebra/unicorn thingy. So if you want to say “Thanks for writing and continuing to host all these tutorials, not to mention continued hosting of the Andy Pike tutorials” here’s one way to do it. Just send me an email and I’ll send you an invite.

Blog update did not go well

April 9th, 2007 Site News

I recently upgraded the blog and an awful lot of things did not go well. At this point everything seems to be working. I have a new theme for the blog that is not fixed width. Fixed width sites are extremely annoying, so this makes me happy. I didn’t design it and only made the tiniest of changes, so I can’t take any of the credit. I believe the theme is called Aqueous Lite.

All of the comments were lost, so I apologize to those of you who were nice enough to leave comments. A number of the posts were lost too including a number of drafts that I hadn’t yet published. :(

Updated DirectX9 C++ Tutorials

January 1st, 2007 DirectX

My plans for New Year’s fell through, but my loss is your gain. I’ve updated all of the C++ DirectX tutorials to Visual Studio 2005 and the December 2006 SDK. If it weren’t for some weird Web and CVS issues it wouldn’t have even taken all that long, but as it was I’ve been up all night. So now that everything is updated and appears to work, I’m going to crash.
